![]() Lance King has been an singer since he was a sophomore in High School, performing with friends in the beginning but soon making a living with bands doing covers and originals in the club scene in the Midwest of the USA. Lance left Freelance, his third band in 6 years, to join up with Gemini, the first group he had been involved in that had formally released any albums. Gemini continually played a demanding schedule of over 260 shows a year, and during the 6 years Lance was involved, they released two full length albums, one in 1990 (self titled) and the second in 1992, entitled "Out for Blood". These albums were the birth of Lance's own label Nightmare records, and made inroads into the underground Metal scene in the USA and Europe. Leaving Gemini in 1993, he formed his own band The Kings Machine and released an album in 1995. He continued to play around the Midwest and run his record company. T.K.M.'s album "A State of Mind" received excellent reviews worldwide and Lance began to make a name for himself in the metal world. In 1997 Lance was asked to join Balance Of Power. The group had just lost one of their main guitarist/song writers and replaced him with Pete Southern. In doing so the band's musical style had shifted to a heavier and more progressive approach which wasn't working for the original vocalist of the group. The new chemistry resulted in Balance Of Power's second release which was a fantastically well received concept album entitled "Book of Secrets" (1998). The new birth of Balance Of Power had begun. During their German tour in 2000 with Pink Cream 69 & Axxis, Lance had the pleasure of meeting German guitarist Rolf Munkes, who asked Lance to sing a song on his upcoming release, a version of the Police song "Message in a Bottle". Rolf and Lance also recorded a song for the new Jason Becker tribute CD, to be released on Lion Music in 2001. While finishing up this track Rolf asked Lance if he'd like to become more involved in his next album. Lance agreed, so Rolf flew to the USA in April of 2001 and they recorded the next album to be released under the new band moniker of Empire. Lance hadn't even known about all the other musicians involved with the album until it was nearly complete, and was very excited to know he'd just played with the likes of Neil Murray and Don Airey, not to mention Mark Boals & Anders Johansson. April was a full month of recording as Balance Of Power also flew to the US and Lance recorded their latest album, to be released this year, entitled "Perfect Balance". At present Lance is working his record company Nightmare Records and will be touring in the summer and fall of 2001 with Balance Of Power in the US and Europe. |
